Happy New Year! Welcome 2024

We have made it to a new year and time to reflect on 2023 highlights and focus on 2024 plans.

Reflections on 2023

Community Engagement:

  • Social Committee conducted a homeowner survey to gauge interests in social events.
  • Successful events included Spring Fling, Summer Bash, and Winter Holiday.
  • Volunteers dedicated their creativity and hours to ensure enjoyable gatherings for all ages.

Haven Landscaping Improvements:

  • Addressed thinning/dead sod near Cabana and Coralberry.
  • Created rock enhancements in non-growing sod areas.
  • Redesigned entrances at Rogers/Presidio and Fisher Road.
  • Stabilized shifting brick planter walls and installed LED lights at Fisher entrance.
  • Moved trashcans away from playground to reduce smell and rodents.
  • Raised tree canopies for more light and safety during ice storms.

Yard of the Month:

  • Continued in 2023 by awarding winners from May to September.
  • HOA Board purchased $25 gift cards as prizes.
  • Additional categories for best Halloween yard decorations and December holiday displays.

Pool Operations

  • Pool was open for 6 months in 2023 from April 29th to Oct 29th. Gone are the days of the pool only open 3 months a year with it closed on Mondays for maintenance.
  • Only one closure for a 4-day maintenance due to a faulty gate; ongoing maintenance done without pool closure.
  • Planned pool season for 2024: April 27th to Oct 26th.

Looking Ahead to 2024

Social Committee

  • Formed by volunteer homeowners, organizes various events throughout the year.
  • Past events: Spring Fling, Summer Bash/Pool Party, Fall Festival/Trunk or Treat, Winter Holiday, Pot Lucks and Concert in the Park.
  • In 2023, three events canceled due to insufficient volunteers.
  • New members sought to assist in event planning.
  • Interested individuals can share ideas or join by emailing contact information to PHNEBoard@gmail.com.

Greenbelt Redesign:

  • Haven Landscaping to plant 20 new trees in the greenbelt as part of phase 1 redesign.
  • Focus on creating a low-maintenance area for walking, reading, and enjoying nature.
  • Installation of irrigation to support the newly planted trees in 2024.

Yard of the Month:

  • Landscape Committee to select monthly winners highlighting neighbors who enhance the community's beauty.
  • Selections from May to August/September, including Fall/Halloween and Winter/December holidays.

Call for volunteers to join the committee by sending contact information to PHNEBoard@gmail.com.

Home Thoughts

  • Prune trees in late fall, winter, or early spring when they have vigorous new growth. If your lawn is getting thin, then taking out some limbs may help.

  • All grass likes sunlight but Bermuda needs the most and is unforgiving under mature trees. St Augustine can do well under well pruned trees, but it needs more water and is susceptible to a variety of diseases and pests. Zoysia has the drought tolerance of Bermuda and the shade tolerance of St. Augustine.

  • Discounted mulch can be bought from Texas Pure Products (texaspureproducts.com) which turns our yard waste into mulch, compose and soil.

  • Air Conditioners are expensive, so set a reminder to replace filters, flush drip lines and rinse off outside units to help them last longer.

  • To protect against water damage, get a chimney check-up, and check toilet mechanisms and fix.

  • Fencing will last much longer if stained or painted.
